A Sad Goodbye to Old Friends
On a personal note, two very good friends of mine, Shawn “ Bergie” Bergstrom and his wife Dinah, were killed in a car accident on their return home to Seattle from visiting family in their home state of Kansas. Bergie, was a youth and family coordinator for a conglomeration of 10 Lutheran churches nicknamed LYONS (Lutheran Youth Of North Seattle) and Dinah worked for the Seattle Art Museum. As many of you know, I used to live and work in Seattle and I met Bergie, and not only worked with him on several projects, but he became a really close friend. I use to hang out with him and Dinah when we each had spare time in our hectic schedules. For anyone who knew them, you couldn’t ask for more friendly, caring, and positive people. And if you had the chance to meet them you were instantly blessed to have met such great people. I was very lucky to have seen Bergie on a project I was working on in February in Anaheim. We had lost touch after I had moved to Michigan, but I always knew that I could call him for anything at any time. He was there for me when I was going through a rough time in adjusting to Seattle, and he was the one I looked up to the most when it came to my faith life. He will be sorely missed and I offer my condolences to the families of Bergie and Dinah. They have left a legacy that will continue on and they will never be forgotten. Services were held at Bergie’s Seattle home office, Ballard First Lutheran in Seattle as well as their home in Kansas.
